Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev played another classic, but this time, the Russian player won the match.

The two have developed quite a rivalry in recent months. They have played several times, and most of those matches were very important. It started last year in Rotterdam when Medvedev bested Sinner in the final, but the Italian got his revenge later that year.

He bested him in a few finals, including the Australian Open final this year, which was an iconic performance by the Italian. Medvedev led 2-0 in that match, but Sinner turned around the match to win his maiden Grand Slam trophy.

All of that made this meeting particularly interesting, and it didn’t disappoint. The first was immediately a showcase of both players’ skills, especially on serve, as fans on the Centre Court didn’t see a single break point.

A tie-break settled it, and Sinner won it as he was generally the better player in the opening set. He was aggressive and hit the ball really well, which proved crucial.

Medvedev responded in the second set, taking it 6-4 with some really solid play. He never ran into trouble on his serve, while using his chances on his opponent’s serve. The Italian missed more but also served worse, which certainly contributed to getting broken.

The next set was quite bizarre. Medvedev took an early break, after which Sinner called a medical timeout. It wasn’t an injury but some other physical problem, as his blood pressure was measured, among other things.

They were playing indoors under the roof, which might have given Sinner some trouble with heat. Despite the issues, the Italian fought back, making it 5-5. He had set points shortly after but couldn’t convert, ending up in a tie-break, which he lost 4-7.

It seemed as if Medvedev was on the brink of winning, especially with his opponent’s physical struggles, but then Sinner produced a spectacular set to completely outplay the Russian, winning it 6-2.

Sinner seemed to have momentum, but it was Medvedev who broke first in the decider, taking a 4-1 lead. The World No. 1 player pushed but ultimately failed to create too much pressure, and Medvedev won the match 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3. In the semi-finals, the Russian will await the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul.
