“Let’s try one more time”: Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman reunite ahead of Roland Garros farewells
The pair of friends are due to play in the qualifying stage next week in Paris.

Next week, two fan favorites will begin their quest to make one more main-draw appearance at Roland Garros.
Two-time finalist Dominic Thiem and former semifinalist Diego Schwartzman are among the players due to compete in qualifying, barring several player withdrawals over the coming weekend that would enable the Austrian to move into the 128-player field.
Thiem and Schwartzman are long-time competitors and—more importantly—friends. On Friday, the Argentine shared a heartwarming update from the French capital.
“Let’s try one more time @domithiem,” wrote Schwartzman.

In 2020, Schwartzman edged out Thiem in a dramatic quarterfinal that spanned more than five hours. But since that epic clash, they’ve combined to reach one additional major quarterfinal—with Schwartzman returning to the last eight of Roland Garros a year later.
Earlier this month, both announced plans to hang up their racquets. Thiem will bid adieu this fall in Vienna, while Schwartzman plans to say goodbye in his native Buenos Aires next February.
The 2020 US Open champion most recently took the court in Madrid, falling in the second round of qualifying to Thanasi Kokkinakis. The last time Thiem attempted to qualify at a Grand Slam event was his lone bid—a successful one at the 2014 Australian Open.
As for El Peque, it was 10 years ago when he passed the qualifying stage for the first time in five attempts by punching a main-draw ticket into the Paris major. Schwartzman was eliminated in the first round of Australian Open qualifying this past January.
