Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur: Tennis power couple could take Wimbledon by storm

Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur could take Wimbledon by storm in 2024.

Sometimes, tennis players find love both on and off the court.

That has certainly proven to be the case for Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, who are one of the most popular couples in the sport.

The long-term relationship between the two has become more prominent as the two continue to hit new heights in their respective careers, but they may attract more attention than ever at Wimbledon this year.

At the All England Club, Boulter and de Minaur’s relationship  could be one of the biggest attractions at SW19.

Boulter: Home favourite

This will be the biggest Wimbledon ever for Boulter, with the home favourite seeded at a Grand Slam event for the first time.

The 27-year-old’s potential has always been obvious but, often struck down with injury, she was rarely afforded the chance to shine at her home Slam.

That all changed in 2022, however, when she produced one of the best performances of the tournament to down 2021 finalist and former world No 1 Karolina Pliskova in three sets on Centre Court.

Boulter won the hearts of the Wimbledon crowd that day, emotionally revealing her grandmother had passed away just days before, and since then has reached new heights.

After another spell on the sidelines, she captured her first WTA title at the Nottingham Open last June, prevailing as a wildcard.

She then reached round three at both Wimbledon and the US Open that summer, before a hugely impressive 2024 to date.

Boulter captured the biggest title of her career to date at the WTA 500 event in San Diego, before successfully defending her Nottingham crown just over a week ago.

With only one other British player – ATP star Jack Draper – seeded in the singles draws, she will be one of the poster girls of the Championships.

De Minaur: Genuine contender

Much like his off-court partner, de Minaur is in career-best form – and is now inside the top ten of the ATP Rankings.

The Australian has won two titles in 2024 – including a victory on the grass in ‘s-Hertogenbosch – and has reached the second week of both Slams this year, with a run to the last eight at Roland Garros.

The 25-year-old is currently set to be the ninth seed at the All England Club after slipping from his career high of world No 7 – but still has a genuine shot at going very deep this year.

Unlike many of those ranked above him, de Minaur looks comfortable on the grass, and is certainly in good enough form to take advantage of anyone slightly off their game.

Star power

Fans are undeniably attracted to love stories in tennis, and Boulter and de Minaur are a part of that fascination.

Fifty years ago, focus was on Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert as the two won Wimbledon in the same year, and recently Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, and Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya, have attracted headlines – alongside Boulter and de Minaur.

Outside of Emma Raducanu, Boulter is probably the most popular and well-known of the British WTA stars in action at Wimbledon this year, while de Minaur’s fan base has grown with Britain because of the relationship.

The couple’s relationship has grown from strength to strength, reaching new heights on and off court, and, with a strong social media presence, fans will likely buy into their relationship even more over the next two weeks or so.

Twice this year they have won tournaments the same week – attracting significant attention both times – and all eyes will be on if and when they are seen together at SW19.

The pair even entered the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon a year ago, and it will be fascinating to see if they do so again.

It might be a push to see either win the title, but expect Boulter and de Minaur to be firmly front and centre.
