Jelena Ostapenko had a heated exchange with the chair umpire during her quarterfinal match against Victoria Azarenka at the 2024 Brisbane International.
No.3 seed Jelena Ostapenko defeated Camila Giorgi in the first round and Karolina Pliskova in the second round to face Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals. However, her journey came to an end after losing against Azarenka in a three-set battle 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.
During this match, it was the final round of the battle when the scores were 4-4 when Jelena Ostapenko lost her cool to the chair umpire Julie Kjendlie. Ostapenko debated over a point awarded to Azarenka and claimed that the ball had bounced twice on Azarenka’s end. She expressed her frustration with the umpire to emphasize her point and accused Kjendlie of making mistakes.
