Jelena Ostapenko voices displeasure over the umpire’s recurring mistakes at Brisbane International

Jelena Ostapenko had a heated exchange with the chair umpire during her quarterfinal match against Victoria Azarenka at the 2024 Brisbane International.

No.3 seed Jelena Ostapenko defeated Camila Giorgi in the first round and Karolina Pliskova in the second round to face Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals. However, her journey came to an end after losing against Azarenka in a three-set battle 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.

During this match, it was the final round of the battle when the scores were 4-4 when Jelena Ostapenko lost her cool to the chair umpire Julie Kjendlie. Ostapenko debated over a point awarded to Azarenka and claimed that the ball had bounced twice on Azarenka’s end. She expressed her frustration with the umpire to emphasize her point and accused Kjendlie of making mistakes.

She further blamed her for her 2019 Linz Open final loss to Coco Gauff where the same chair umpire officiated the match.

On X, a tennis fan shared the clip and captioned it ‘She never forgets’ on Ostapenko’s memory of the umpire from her 2019 Linz Open final loss. Coco Gauff defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to clinch her first WTA Tour title.

Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko who is seeded No.3 at Brisbane International grabbed the attention of the fans with her new outfit.

She is sponsored by a brand from her home country, DK ONE. She was seen wearing a lavender dress with a sleeveless waistcoat-inspired coat and a wrap skirt which also featured white and lavender side panels and matching undershorts during her match against Camila Giorgi.

She shared about her new kit sponsor in a recent interview with skater Natalia Zabiiako on Zabiaako & Kasatkina.

“I wanted to wear what I liked for a very long time.”

The company was founded in 2017 by former tennis player Daniela K in Riga, and since then Ostapenko has been involved with the company. She was earlier seen wearing apparel from DK ONE at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon Open in 2022.
