“It makes you feel like you’re anti-semitic…” Coco Gauff voices strong opinion on Israel – Palestine war

American tennis star Coco Gauff is pained by whatever is happening in Gaza. The 19-year-old has condemned the violence and has demanded a ceasefire. As people continue to lose lives due to cross-border tension between Israel and Palestine, Gauff feels worried.

The reigning US Open champion has called for the violence to stop. Gauff has also acknowledged the ongoing narrative that not supporting the violence in Gaza can make her an antisemitic. However, she claimed that she is far from that sentiment.

The tennis star said that she does not fear voicing her opinion and feels that the atrocities in Gaza must stop. Gauff claims that while there are killings on both sides of the spectrum, one side is losing lives more drastically than the other.

I don’t really support the mass violence going on to innocent people on both ends of the spectrum. And there’s one side that’s getting killed at more drastically faster rates than the other side. I feel like it’s becoming more, if you don’t support what’s happening in Gaza, it makes you feel like you’re antisemitic. I feel far from that. I am not one to shy away from something that I feel informed about. And I feel pretty informed about this topic.

Coco Gauff said in her latest interview to TIME.

At first, I was scared to grow up. But now I’m embracing adulthood and womanhood. I don’t have a timeline on that (moving out of her parents' house). I always say it’ll happen in my 20s at some point.
