“It doesn’t matter if I’ve won 2 Grand Slams or 15, that’s the beauty of it” – Carlos Alcaraz opens up about living under his “parents’ rule” at home

Carlos Alcaraz has disclosed that his professional success has not changed the way his parents treat him at home. The Spaniard shared that living under his parents’ rule at home allows him to be himself, free from the pressures of his life as a tennis player.

After clinching his maiden French Open title, Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon title by claiming a commanding 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) win over Novak Djokovic in a rematch of last year’s final.

Following his triumph, the 21-year-old revealed his plans to celebrate the victory with his family and friends in a “stay-at-home” vacation instead of taking a trip to Ibiza.

It comes as no surprise that Carlos Alcaraz chose to unwind at home, as he has disclosed that returning to the house he shares with his parents and brother lets him forget about tennis and simply be himself.

Speaking to ABC shortly after his Wimbledon triumph, the Spaniard disclosed that he is under his “parents’ rule” at home, regardless of how many Grand Slam titles he racks up.

“Once I set foot in my house, I am under my parents’ rules. So it doesn’t matter if I’ve won two Grand Slams or fifteen. They are the ones who rule and I think that’s the beauty of it. Once I get home I forget about the tennis part and I’m the same person as always,” Carlos Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz also shed light on what he misses most when he is away from home, highlighting the simple joys of being with his loved ones in a calm environment.

“Being at home, calm, with my people. Without doing much, because at home I enjoy not doing big things, but doing the simplest and most natural things. That’s what characterizes me and what I enjoy the most. That’s what I miss the most,” he added.

In an interview with the Sunday Times before his Wimbledon campaign, Carlos Alcaraz opened up about seeking the comfort of his family at home after every tournament, regardless of whether he won or not.

“When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family. I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers. To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy,” Carlos Alcaraz said.

The 21-year-old also shared that he misses his mother and two younger brothers, Sergio and Jaime, when he is away on tour, as they are typically unable to join his father and elder brother Alvaro at his tournaments.

“One of the things about tennis is that you travel a lot and my dad and older brother come with me. My older brother is my hitting partner. But Mum can’t come because she is looking after the two little ones. So getting home is great because I miss them. The longer you are away, the more you realise how much you need them,” he added.

After enjoying some quality time with his family, Carlos Alcaraz will be back in action at the Paris Olympics, commencing on July 26. Alongside his quest to clinch the gold medal in singles, the World No. 3 will team up with Rafael Nadal for a shot at doubles glory.
