India’s pride Sumit Nagal gets in front of the line to script another history for the subcontinent. He registered a win in the qualifying round of the Monte Carlo Open to make it to the main draw.
After beating two top seeds in the qualifying matches, the Indian confirmed his position in the singles main draw. Nagal was up against Flavio Cobolli in the first qualifying round, and he showed nerves of steel to steer off the No. 8 qualifying round seed. Similarly, Nagal outlasted the third-qualifying seed, Facundo Diaz Acosta, in a thriller of a match to script history.

After a first-set lead, the Indian fell a little short in the second one before posing a comeback and sealing the match. He was down 2–5 games in the first set before making a comeback to become the first Indian in 42 years to qualify for Monte Carlo’s main draw.
The last Indian to have played in this tournament was Ramesh Krishnan, who lost in the first round of the 1982 Monte Carlo Open. With this triumph, Nagal continues to be the face of Indian tennis as he beat another Top 60 player.

This is the second time in the month that the Indian players have stood out. Just a week ago, Rohan Bopanna, the World No. 1 in doubles tennis, recorded a Masters win at the Miami Open. Fighting from a setdown, Bopanna and Ebden emerged victorious in Florida.
