Caroline Wozniacki’s father destroys WTA, French Open & Rome Open in brutal rant

Piotr Wozniacki has ripped the WTA, French Open and Rome Open as Caroline Wozniacki’s father thinks his daughter is being treated “disrespectfully” with wildcard selection.

Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion and a former world No. 1, kicked off her clay season in Charleston and also played in Madrid but that ended up being her only two tournaments played this clay season after she wasn’t awarded wildcards into either Rome or the French Open.

Wozniacki, who is 33 and returned to tennis last year after giving birth and being sidelined for three and a half years, is currently ranked at No. 117 in the world – a ranking that is still not enough for her to be making directly main draws of WTA 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments.

However, since she is still a big name, the general belief was that she would not have problems entering any tournaments and that every tournament would be thrilled to host her. But the Rome Open and French Open didn’t think that way.

Addressing Wozniacki not receiving a French Open main draw wildcard and then pulling out of the qualifying, Piotr Wozniacki blasted the WTA by stating that they are “operating in an amateur way.” Then, Wozniacki senior shared that his daughter waited to see if she would be treated “respectfully” by the French Open organizers before making her decision on her participation at Roland Garros.

“Caroline is not the type of person who considers the qualifiers a dishonor. She can play in the qualifying. But in the case of Roland, she simply wanted to see if she was respected,” Wozniacki told sport.pl.

“That’s why she didn’t enter the qualifying rounds, risking losing the tournament at most. She told me so: ‘Dad, I’m not going to enter because I’m curious how they will treat me’.

“And by the time she got the answer, it was too late to apply for the qualifiers. With Wimbledon, on the other hand, the thing is that we are waiting, but we already know what to expect.”

After calling out the French Open, Piotr Wozniacki also ripped the Rome Open, whose selection featured Italian players well-ranked outside the top-100, with some even being ranked near the 1000th position.

“For the tournament in Rome, all the wildcards, and there were eight of them, were given to Italians. I understand promoting your players, but how can you give the right to play in a tournament of this rank to girls who shouldn’t even think about playing in a WTA 1000 tournament?” Piotr Wozniacki said.
