Naomi Osaka’s recent philosophical note, which the Japanese shared via social media, has become the subject of utter ridicule among tennis fans.

Osaka exited the ongoing Mutua Madrid Open on Thursday, April 25. She suffered a 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 defeat at the hands of Liudmila Samsonova in the WTA 1000 tournament’s second round.

On Saturday, April 27, Osaka shared a note she had seemingly written on her phone.

“How bold of me to assume I’ll live long enough to fade away. After all, nothing in life is promised. Everyday and every breath is a blessing, it should be viewed as such. How bold of me to assume tomorrow is promised, to find joy and happiness in all moments of life is true wealth,” Osaka’s note read.

However, Naomi Osaka’s note did not go down well with tennis fans on Reddit, with most ridiculing it. One set of fans compared the former WTA World No. 1 to Stefanos Tsitsipas, who often shares his philosophical takes on various subjects with his social media followers.

“You’ve heard of Tsitsipas Nonsense, now get ready for Osaka Tomfoolery,” wrote one fan.

“Naomi is chanelling her inner tsitsipas,” another fan commented.

“Lmfao tsitsipas era fr tho,” another fan chimed in.

Another set of fans ridiculed the note as they could not relate to it owing to its “true wealth” part.

“I cannot relate cuz I still have to work to live,” one fan wrote.

“Okay, millionaire philosopher,” commented another fan.

“I’ll take some of her fake wealth if she wants to focus on true wealth,” wrote another fan.

Yet another set of fans took cynical digs at the note.

“Sometimes save the thing in drafts and don’t post it sis,” wrote one fan.

“Naomi was pretty much obsolete before she got pregnant,” another fan commented.

“Post-nut clarity?” one fan asked.

The ongoing Mutua Madrid Open marked Osaka’s eighth tournament this season following her lengthy maternity leave. However, the four-time Grand Slam winner continues to look rusty. Across the majority of the tournaments she has featured in so far this season, she has suffered early exits.

Osaka’s best finish in 2024 came at the Qatar Open in February, where she reached the quarterfinals before being ousted by Karolina Pliskova 7-6(6), 7-6(5).

Following her loss to Samsonova in Madrid, Naomi Osaka expressed sadness regarding the result. However, at the same time, she was optimistic as well due to her mental resolve that allowed her to storm back into the contest and clinch the second set.

“I felt…I don’t want to say happy…I felt good that I was able to fight back. I think it’s a big difference from my match in France (her first-round loss to Martina Trevisan at the Rouen Open), so I was happy that I learned from that match, but obviously really sad that I lost,” Osaka told reporters.
