“I’m still young, I have a lot of time,” Novak Djokovic announces hopeful participation update for Rome, Wimbledon and the Olympics amidst Madrid heartbreak

Novak Djokovic, 36, is not going to slow down anytime soon! He is eyeing victories in some Major tournaments this year, including the Olympic Games in Paris.

After winning Sportsman of the Year for the fifth time at the 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, the 24-time Grand Slam champion gave a list of the events where he is aiming to emerge victorious. He skipped the ongoing Madrid Open and admitted that he is preparing his body to play the important tournaments.

Djokovic, though he skipped the Madrid Open, is intending to feature at the upcoming Rome Open. However, he asserted that as he dealt with disappointments at the start of this year, he is making himself ready for the big events.

Hopefully, next year, you know I'm still young. I have a lot of time ahead of me. But you know I am preparing myself, my body to be ready for, particularly for Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the Olympic Games, the US Open, that is the block that is the most important block for me.

During the same press conference at the Laureus World Sports Awards, the Serb said, though he is unsure of the future, if things go according to his plans and if he stays healthy and fit, he will play at the 2028 Olympic Games. By that time, he will be 41 years old!

If I am healthy and fit and play my best, because at the end of the day, who knows if I will get another chance to play another Games, they come every four years. I recently said that I want to play till the LA Olympic Games, but you never know at this stage what could happen.

The World No. 1 has played just three tournaments this year: the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and the Monte Carlo Masters. In the Principality, he lost to Norway’s Casper Ruud in the semifinals with a scoreline of 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner denied the Serb his chance to win his 25th Grand Slam title by knocking him out of the Australian Open semifinals. The Italian then went on to win his first Grand Slam title.
