Retired tennis player Mats Wilander showered praises for British player Andy Murray recently. In fact, he made an outrageous claim that the Brit would have won 10 Grand Slam titles if not for the Big 3. Well, that is not very far away from reality after all, because he was once a part of what was then called the ‘Big 4’.
During his rise, Andy Murray was considered the nemesis of Novak Djokovic and he was considered to be at the same level as the Serb. After winning three Majors, he kind of solidified that position and was in contention to become the ‘Next Big thing’ in tennis. Unfortunately, his career was plagued with injuries, which stifled his possibility of winning many more Grand Slam titles.

A lot of people have misunderstood Andy Murray over the years. But when you see him in Miami after doing that to his ankle, suddenly, they might realize Andy Murray is one of the greatest fighters of all time, one of the greatest competitors of all time. He would have won 10 majors if he didn’t play at the same time as the big three.

Recently, during his round of 32 match against Tomas Machac in the Miami Open, Murray rolled his ankle in the deciding set and severely injured himself. Although he lost the match eventually, the Brit fought through pain till the very end, which shows his fighting spirit.

While Wilander’s words are on point for the Brit, it doesn’t take away that Murray’s injury came at an unfortunate time because it was evident in the Miami Open that he had improved his performance a lot. His victory against Matteo Berrettini showed that.
The Brit made a sensational comeback against the former World No. 6 after losing the first set. He then defeated Thomas Etcheverry in the round of 64 in straight sets.
Andy Murray’s team gives an update on his injury
Murray recently rolled his ankle in the deciding set of his match against Tomas Machac. Although he played till the very end, it led to a ruptured ligament. The Brit’s team released a statement in which they revealed that Murray will be out for an extended period and he will thus miss the Monte-Carlo Masters and Munich Open at least.
Following consultation with his team and medical experts, Andy Murray has taken the decision to miss the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open Munich. At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action, and he is continuing to review options with his medical team. Obviously this is disappointing news for Andy and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible.the statement read
It is unclear when Murray will make his return to the court. The only thing that is certain is the fact that he will return because of his love for the sport, which he has shown time and again with his actions.
However, it must be noted that the two-time Wimbledon winner is 36 years old now, and he is in the twilight of his career. If he continues to suffer such injuries at this point, it might push him towards retirement and that is what many of his admirers currently fear.
