Djokovic ‘Started Panicking’ Against Alcaraz In Wimbledon Final Says Kyrgios

Novak Djokovic didn’t have the best of time in his 2024 Wimbledon Championships final against Carlos Alcaraz, and Nick Kyrgios explained that It looked like the Serbian started panicking.

Kyrgios played in a Wimbledon final against Djokovic a few years ago, but the Serbian beat him in four sets. Alcaraz beat the Serbian legend in five sets last year, and he needed only three sets to win Wimbledon this year, so what exactly happened, and why was it so simple for the 21-year-old?

Quite a few factors contributed to the seven-time champion not feeling his best on the tennis courts. First of all, he played against an amazing player, and he knew it.

The way the Spaniard played the match showed how confident he was, and also because of how slowly he started last year’s final, Alcaraz flew into this match, and that’s when his 37-year-old opponent started panicking, according to the Australian.

Wimbledon: Nick Kyrgios makes big Carlos Alcaraz prediction and says Novak Djokovic was 'odd' in final

“I think last year Alcaraz started really slow, but this year was a totally different story. He came out with a lot of energy, and there was a 15-minute first game, and he got the break, and that really set the tone.”

“I think Novak started panicking a little bit with the game plan, started serving and volleying, he went to the net probably more times today than he had previously in any other match.”

Kyrgios was in London as part of BBC’s broadcasting team, and like many others, he called the final one-sided. It’s just the reality because the first two sets weren’t that competitive, even though that changed in the final set, but still, Alcaraz was just too good for his opponent.

“Djokovic has beaten every great of the game – Federer, Nadal, playing his game style, so coming out today with something completely different was definitely odd.”

“Whether it was him not being able to go physically the way he wanted – maybe he wanted to keep points short. But as I said, Alcaraz was feeling it a little too much.”
