Iga Swiatek gets ‘good luck’ wishes from F1 superstar Oscar Piastri ahead of Wimbledon 2024 campaign

Iga Swiatek recently received a “good luck” wish from Australian F1 superstar Oscar Piastri ahead of her 2024 Wimbledon Championships campaign. Last year, the World No.1 made it to the quarterfinals of the grasscourt Major.

Iga Swiatek is enjoying one of the best seasons of her career to date. She has won several titles this year, beginning with the 2024 Qatar Open. This was her third consecutive title at Doha, followed by title victories at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Madrid Open, Italian Open, and the French Open.

Swiatek will enter Wimbledon on the back of her win at Roland Garros, a clay court Grand Slam. She will compete in London without participating in any grasscourt tournaments to prepare herself.

Recently, Iga Swiatek shared a series of pictures of herself on social media, giving an “update” on her Wimbledon preparations. She shared images of herself practicing on the courts and training in the gym ahead of the grasscourt Grand Slam.

“Update… 🌱 ☀️ ,” Swiatek captioned her Instagram post.

Reacting to Swiatek’s post, F1 driver Oscar Piastri extended his best wishes and wished “good luck” to the Pole for her Wimbledon campaign.

“Good luck Iga,” Piastri wrote.

The World No.1 was the two-time defending champion at Roland Garros. She defeated players like Leolia Jeanjean, former World No.1 Naomi Osaka, Marie Bouzkova, Anastasia Potapova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Coco Gauff en route to the French Open final for the third consecutive year.

In the championship match, Iga Swiatek dominated Jasmine Paolini with a score of 6-2, 6-1 to secure her third consecutive title at Roland Garros and her fifth Grand Slam title overall.

Last year, Iga Swiatek had a quarterfinals run at the Wimbledon Championships, her best result at the grasscourt Grand Slam to date. She was the top seed in the tournament and began her campaign by defeating Zhu Lin, winning 6-1, 6-3 in the first round. The Pole then continued her winning streak by defeating Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-2, 6-0 in the second round.

Swiatek then triumphed over 30th seed Petra Martic 6-2, 7-5 and 14th seed Belinda Bencic 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 6-3 in the third and fourth rounds respectively. However, her journey came to an end in the quarterfinals when she was defeated by former World No.3 Elina Svitolina in a hard-fought match, with a final score of 5-7, 7-6(5), 2-6.

Throughout the tournament, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka were both vying for the World No. 1 ranking. The Pole was looking to retain it and the Belarusian was looking to get the top spot for the first time in her career.

However, Aryna Sabalenka’s campaign ended in the semifinals when she was defeated by sixth seed Ons Jabeur 7-6(5), 4-6, 3-6 and this loss allowed Swiatek to retain her top ranking.
