Zverev Adds Another Win At Halle Open To Reach Quarter-Finals

Alexander Zverev added another win at the 2024 Halle Open to book the quarter-finals as he continues his preparation for Wimbledon.

Zverev should be a good grass player, considering his skill set. He has a powerful serve and moves fairly well despite his size. Even with all that, the German hasn’t really had that much success on the surface, losing early quite a few times and even at bigger events.

He’s coming off a spectacular Roland Garros, so maybe things can finally work out for him. The Halle Open has been a place he comes back often, and this year’s working out pretty well for him. He won his first match here without too many problems and added yet another win.

Zverev Adds Another Win At Halle Open To Reach Quarter-Finals

Lorenzo Sonego is a tricky opponent who can prove tough to beat on the right day. He was solid in this match, albeit not good enough for Zverev, who did just enough to keep it in two sets. The first one opened perfectly for Zverev, who broke the Italian in the first game, after which he could simply focus on keeping his serve.

Due to the conditions in Halle and the event being a grass one, it wasn’t that difficult, as Zverev closed it out 6-4. He dominated on his serve, losing only two points behind his first serve and only four points overall, never allowing Sonego to see a breakpoint. The second set was pretty similar in that regard, but this time around, Sonego played well as well.

He didn’t drop his serve early on in the set but rather kept it, which pointed towards a tiebreak, and we got it. Both were simply too dominant on their serves for it to go any other way. Zverev started badly, falling behind 0-3, but he got serious quite quickly to make it 4-3.

From there the German remained focused and finished it of 7-5 to keep in two sets.
