Jannik Sinner enjoys Anna Kalinskaya’s support at French Open; Russian spotted in World No. 2’s box as he books his spot in second round

Jannik Sinner enjoyed some extra support as he punched his ticket to the second round of the 2024 French Open on Monday (May 27). The Italian was cheered on by fellow tennis player Anna Kalinskaya during his opening match.

Sinner faced American Christopher Eubanks in the first round of the claycourt Slam. Despite not producing his best level, the World No. 2 got the job done 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 after two hours and 12 minutes of play.

Jannik Sinner’s team, including coaches Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill, was present in the stands to cheer him on during the contest. Also spotted in the 22-year-old’s box was Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya.

In the pictures shared on social media, the World No. 25, who was joined by her coach Patricia Tarabini, could be seen sitting a few rows above Sinner’s coaches.

Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya recently created a buzz in the tennis world when they were captured having a friendly conversation during practice at the French Open. The two were also spotted on a dinner outing at Langosteria restaurant in Paris. As per reports from Italian media, Sinner and Kalinskaya also recently connected in Turin, where he underwent rehabilitation for his hip injury.

Despite speculation about their relationship, though, neither player has made any comments in that regard.

Although Anna Kalinskaya made time to cheer on Jannik Sinner during his opening match at the French Open, she presumably did not sit through the whole match. Just like Sinner, the Russian, too, is set to open her campaign on Monday. She will face home hope Clara Burel for a spot in the second round.

Kalinskaya, who grabbed the spotlight at this year’s Dubai Tennis Championships when she beat Iga Swiatek to reach her maiden WTA 1000 final, hasn’t found much success during the claycourt season. She will compete at the French Open on the back of a first-round defeat at the Internationaux de Strasbourg.

Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, is going for the World No. 1 spot at the French Open. The reigning Australian Open champion is unbeaten at Grand Slam level this year, having extended his streak to eight consecutive wins with his latest victory over Eubanks.

In quest of a fourth title this season, and his second Grand Slam on the trot, Sinner will next face home hero Richard Gasquet.
