Emma Raducanu’s preparations for the grass season are fully underway as the British tennis star revealed in a video posted on Monday that she has already started practicing on grass.
As you probably already know, Raducanu was scheduled to compete in the French Open qualifying last week but she decided to withdraw from the event after not being granted a main draw wildcard. After withdrawing from the French Open, Raducanu said she was switching her focus to the grass season as she wanted to give herself more time to prepare well for what will be a very important part of the year for her.
“It’s important for me to keep laying on the foundations and I will use the time to do a healthy block before the grass and subsequent hard court seasons to give myself a chance to keep fit for the rest of the year,” Raducanu said when confirming that she was out of the French Open qualifying.
Raducanu starts practicing on grass earlier than everyone else
Since the French Open has just gotten underway, it will take some time before the majority of the top players start practicing on grass. But that won’t be the case for Raducanu, who will have at least two weeks of practice on grass before she kicks off her grass season.
After Raducanu opted to skip the French Open, it was announced that she signed up to start her grass season at a WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham, which is scheduled to take place between June 10-16.
When Raducanu kicks off her Nottingham campaign, the 21-year-old Briton will be making her third appearance at the tournament. Previously, Raducanu suffered back-to-back first-round losses in Nottingham in 2021 and 2022.
This year in Nottingham, Raducanu will be joined by fellow Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova and also three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur.
For Raducanu, doing well in Nottingham could be big and something that could set her up nicely for a good grass season.
