Outfit of the Day: Ajla Tomljanovic’s all-over print steals the show at Roland Garros

The Aussie’s stay in Paris was brief but very colorful, thanks to a new design from Original Penguin.

Ajla Tomljanovic’s journey at Roland Garros was brief, but very colorful, as the former world No. 32 turned heads on Court 14 with a new geometric print by Original Penguin.

Once synonymous with golf, Penguin pivoted to tennis back in 2022 by announcing Tomljanovic as its first ambassador in the sport, with Mackenzie McDonald and Jodie Burrage also later joining the ranks.

But beyond just helping to introduce the heritage athleisure brand to a new market, the Aussie has also become the brand’s trend-spotter, too.

“We decided at that time this is a great opportunity to get Penguin back on the courts and affiliated with some players,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO of Perry Ellis International in a recent interview. “We signed Ajla, who was our first female player, and she’s been a great part of the family and she is really into the product and helping us identify new trends.”

“We are excited about some of the new prints and initiatives we have rolling into 2024,” he added. “The outfits are fabulous. They are fashion and happy colors.”

He definitely wasn’t kidding about happy colors and exciting prints—as proven by Tomljanovic’s eye-catching kit on Day 1 of Roland Garros.

Up against No. 20 seed Dayana Yastremska, the 31-year-old rocked a royal blue and white long-sleeved crop top and Penguin’s Flounce Tennis Skort for her first-round match, both of which feature a pop of hot pink for contrast. Crafted from a lightweight, single-knit fabric with moisture-wicking properties and added stretch, the kit is also an eco-conscious option featuring recycled polyester. Tomljanovic completed the look with a blue Penguin visor and Wilson’s Rush Pro shoes in peachy pink.

Currently ranked No. 202 but once a Top 50 fixture, her training gear has also made headlines over the years—especially in the tech world. Tomjlanovic frequently seen using weighted vests and leggings by activewear start-up Omorpho, where she’s also an equity partner.

“It’s basically weighted apparel for training,” Tomljanovic said back in 2022. “You basically do your usual workout, but you get much more out of it. And there’s science behind it… I really feel like, fitness-wise, it helped me a lot.”

Tennis fans only got a brief look at her unique match and training kits in Paris, though, as the Aussie wildcard claimed a hard-fought opening set but ultimately bowed out in three to Yastremska, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. She’ll be back on court for women’s doubles, partnering Daria Saville against No. 16 seeds Miyu Kato and Nadiia Kichenok on Wednesday.

Original Penguin by Munsingwear is a division of Perry Ellis International.
