Nick Kyrgios lands big Wimbledon gig… And it likely means he won’t play there

Nick Kyrgios has landed another gig in tennis broadcasting as the Australian tennis star is set to be a part of BBC’s coverage for 2024 Wimbledon.

Kyrgios, who has appeared in just one tournament since the start of 2023 due to knee and wrist surgeries, made his debut in the booth in late 2023 and since then he has also started his own podcast.

After working as an analyst for Tennis Channel during the 2023 ATP Finals, Kyrgios also worked as a commentator and analyst during this year’s Australian Open.

Now, Kyrgios is guaranteed to cover another major event and provide his expertise on TV.

In his first two broadcasting gigs, Kyrgios did pretty well and he was praised for the insight and perspective he was able to provide to viewers.

What Kyrgios’ BBC deal probably means?

While Kyrgios working in the booth is good news for viewers who enjoyed his expertise during the ATP Finals and Australian Open, his BBC deal very likely means that he won’t be ready to play at The Championships this year.

Last year, Kyrgios was keen on returning during the grass season and being able to play at Wimbledon. But after returning to action from knee surgery last June in Stuttgart, Kyrgios suffered a wrist injury – which forced him to miss Wimbledon.

Since then, Kyrgios has been extra cautious not to rush his comeback and do more harm than good.

Now that he is confirmed as a member of BBC team for Wimbledon, this signals that the Australian probably won’t make his comeback until at least the North American hard court.

Since March, Kyrgios has been able to combine practice and gym work. All of that is an indication that Kyrgios is doing well in his recovery but his latest action also indicates that he will return only when he feels 100 percent to do so.
