WATCH: Carlos Alcaraz back in training for Roland Garros after 21 day long break

Carlos Alcaraz is back to full training on the clay ahead of Roland Garros. The Murcia native has been undergoing treatment for a right arm injury that he suffered while training for the Monte Carlo Masters. Although he returned to play in Madrid, he complained about not feeling comfortable.

A few days ago, it was reported that he was working hard with a physiotherapist, Juanjo Moreno, and coach Alberto Lledo to get his arm in the right shape.

He was also seen in a viral video persistently swinging his right arm without a racquet on the baseline of the clay court. In the latest video released, the 21-year-old could be seen with a racquet hitting a ball softly as he aims to gain full fitness ahead of the French Open.

The last match the Spaniard played was in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open. Despite winning the first set, Alcaraz went on to lose to Russian Audrey Rublev. He was hoping to defend his Madrid title, but his right arm injury let him down.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has to withdraw from the Italian Open in Rome, the second Masters tournament after withdrawing from Monte Carlo in April. However, he still has one title to his name this season, following his victory over Daniil Medvedev to win the Indian Wells Masters for the second consecutive time.

With 18 wins this season, he will be hoping to play at the French Open and the Paris Olympics, which are being held at Roland Garros.

Last year, Alcaraz exited the French Open after losing to Novak Djokovic in a four-set thriller. The Spanish star will be aiming to win his first clay slam of his career this season, despite a slow start to the year.

Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal’s partnership at the Paris Olympics doubles increasingly uncertain

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz revealed his ambition of playing Rafael Nadal in the Paris Olympics doubles. Nadal was happy with his young countryman’s intentions and even supported the claim that they would have to train together before the Olympics.

However, the ambition is becoming increasingly uncertain, with Alcaraz withdrawing from the Italian Open and Nadal not yet certain to play at the French Open.

Looks difficult. I don’t know yet. He got injured in Madrid. I was not with enough good physical conditions to play before. Looks difficult because not remaining lot of tournaments that we can play together before Olympics. Only Roland-Garros remains, and that will not be the case. I don’t know later. Looks difficult, but let’s see.

Rafael Nadal told the media in Rome

Nadal’s loss to Hubert Hurkacz on Saturday has placed the 37-year-old star in a difficult situation after he was hoping to continue in his Madrid Open form. He won only one match in Rome despite being among the early birds in the tournament.
